Living life in a Monastery but Mostly about Hedersleben.
- Living with 64 other kids is pretty great. I get headaches all the time but it’s never lonely. The Monastery is huge and pretty Spooky, especially if your room is on the 3rd floor! My room is on the 2nd and I have to roommates. I could probably think of some complaints about them but there pretty cool so I wont say them.
Funny Story: It’s 15 minutes before room checks, Neither of my roommates are in the room yet so Christine decides that she is going to sleep in my roommates bed (His nickname is Sassy) because she was tired and our whole little group wanted to see his reaction we all let her sleep. About 2 minutes before “Lights out” everybody is about to give up on waiting for him, accept for Christine of corse because she was knocked out. Then he walks in. The look on his face was priceless. Boy Was he surprised. ;) He just kept shouting about his new sheets that he got that day.
A few cool things about this tiny tiny place :
#1 We call them the “Guardian Horses” that live in the yard of the monastery (They were standing in the gateway “guarding” the way.) Anyways they let you ride them.. Though they pretty much just stand there and heads up, their pretty dirty. Still It was fun though!
#2 The Dungeon. It’s Freaking scary down there and ff corse its locked but if you go around to the back there is a window that opens and lets you into it, then the door opens from the other side. There’s this weird room inside that has a pad of paper and pencil where the.. Heater? is. It’s very dark and has lots of spiders. I wont be going there again anytime soon.
#3 They have told us stories about the nuns that were buried alive while this place was built as punishment for doing certain things ... I’m not sure if its really true but I feel like this place is haunted.
#4 Wifi (wlan) In the beginning they all got upset about us getting on the wifi before they gave us the password BUT they are the ones that haven’t changed the password in years and its literally just straight across the number keyboard starting with 1 and ending with 0... Now, If you actually want to use the Wi-fi you have to use one of the “Wifi rooms” Which is actually two of the classrooms on the second floor. (rooms 4 & 5 I think) Though they have since started locking it during certain times and unfortunately the internet doesn’t work a step outside the room. have no fear, Just go outside to the front in the grass (Past the 2nd door) It happens to work there quite well. Just don’t tell all your friends because the more people that connect the less it works ;) also as long as you computer connects skype and other apps like this will work, even if the regular internet wont!!
#5 The people of this village avoid us like the plague, at first we thought that they just didn't like us (Which is still debatable) Until I used my super German Language skills to talk some people our age and found out that nobody here speaks English, even the teenagers. Thats why they don’t come near us, Once I’ve started talking German to them, they actually are pretty nice. (Most of the time anyways)
#6 The little kids that run around the camp. They are very shy at first and then they hang around you and it hits you. They are the worst potty mouths, even worse then US and they are like 8 years old! Every other word that comes out of their mouth is either Fuck or Scheiße. I think that who ever was in the group last year taught them some stuff! :P
#7 German classes, There intense but totally worth it. I’ve learned more in 12 days that I have learned in spanish for two years. We have classes 6 hours a day Mon-Fri then 3 hours on Sat. They are pretty strict about studying during study time everyday 1-2 pm. I try to study but most of the time I’m just brain dead....
Thats all for now. Catch you next time
