Now That I’ve had some time to reflect and process whats going on in my life, it’s time to write and tell the whole world about it.
It all started with over the summer traveling to Germany with a good friend. I totally fell in love with this exotic place. Everything about this place was strange and new AND Wonderful. I did a lot of sight seeing, met a whole bunch of great people, Tried all kinds of great food, and Experienced the culture of a Foreign land.
Coming home was something that I had to do but I did so knowing that someday I would love to go back if even if only for a vacation. As the Months past I focused on school and my grades to keep me from thinking about my summer paradise but the idea of going back kept popping up in my mind until finally I decided that I would look into studying abroad and later on pursuing it.
I found an Organization that would send me to the area of Germany that I had been too before and desired to go back to (Frankfurt) but there was a huge obstacle to tackle, Paying for my trip. After talking on the phone for about an hour somebody who worked at the origination gave me information about the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program witch provides FULL scholarships to 50 people to study in Germany. I immediately set out to get this scholarship.
The First Step : A lengthy application with a lot of information about myself and my family, A letter to my Would Be host family, Six short essay questions, Letters of Recommendation, and Finally information about my congressman and school.
On February 26, 2013 I was informed that I was among one of the 64 Finalists that would be chosen to go to Germany; I was Ecstatic! They also told me that on March 10, 2013 they were flying to Phoenix To meet me and a few other people who were also finalists that lived here in Arizona for an Interview.
My Interview went great! At Fist I was a little nevus but as soon as all the introductions were finished that all went away. They were so nice and were so easy to be comfortable to be around. They asked me a lot of questions and I had a blast being with them.
While at the interview they gave me the Great News that everybody in our finalist group would at least walk out of the program with at least an Alternate Position. As you can Imagine this gave me a lot of hope that I would be able to go! After my interview I was given a Packet for their partner organization which was pretty long but also similar to my first application, which made it somewhat easier.
Recently On April First I was Notified that I would be an Alternate to go to Germany. My First reaction was huge disappointment in myself but then I thought more about my situation and realized how lucky I am to be in the position of an Alternate, and a position that a few hundred other people that did not get as far as me would love to be in.
A few days ago I was told that I would be sent Flight Information to the Orientation (Which I herd would be In Michigan) And I am Totally excited for.
Now I am preparing for college and Waiting to find out if I will be put in the position to be sent to Germany or not. May the odd’s be ever in my favor.
